The legendary pinnacle — one site, endless surprises

Every Wednesday & Sunday

Richelieu Rock is famous for a reason: it’s one of the most concentrated, high-energy dives in the region. A huge pinnacle rising out of open sea, it can deliver everything in one place — big pelagic potential in the blue, incredible reef color on the rock itself, and small hidden treasures for anyone who likes to look closely. It’s a dive people plan their whole trip around, and even after you’ve done it once, it never feels “done.”

Because Richelieu sits exposed with no sheltered moorings, it has a true expedition vibe — conditions can be sporty, and that water movement is exactly what brings the action. With an experienced guide and a solid briefing, you learn how to enjoy it comfortably and intelligently, using the structure of the pinnacle to find shelter and the best viewing angles. If you want the most iconic Andaman dive in your week, this is it — and if you’re lucky enough to get great conditions, it’s the kind of day you’ll talk about long after your holiday ends.

Tour Location

Richelieu Rock – Thailand’s most legendary dive site, packed with life from top to bottom

Richelieu Rock is the kind of place divers fly across the world for. Sitting out in open water, this isolated pinnacle pulls in an insane concentration of marine life, from tiny rare critters to full-on big-fish moments. It’s not “just another reef” in the Andaman, it’s a dive that feels like an underwater festival: color, movement, and surprises in every direction.
What makes Richelieu so special is the structure. The rock rises up from deeper water and forms ledges, ridges, coral-covered slopes, and little protected pockets where everything can hide, hunt, and feed. You get soft corals and sea fans in full color, swirling schools of fish, and constant action as predators cruise through. For photographers, it’s the ultimate dilemma: go wide for the big scenes and open-water encounters, or go macro and spend the whole dive finding the weird and wonderful hidden in the cracks.
This is also one of the best spots in Thailand to tick off a true bucket-list dive experience. Conditions can be lively because it’s exposed to the open sea, which is exactly why it’s so alive. With a solid briefing, smart guiding, and good group control, you get to enjoy the magic safely, and come up feeling like you just dove a world-famous site for a reason. If you only do one “legendary” dive day in the region, Richelieu Rock is the one that earns the hype.

Similan National Park Rules

  • Season: The Similan Islands are closed every year from 16 May to 14 October and open from 15 October to 15 May.
  • No drones: Drone flights are strictly prohibited.
  • No single-use plastics: Many Thai National Parks prohibit single-use plastic items (and foam containers). Please avoid bringing disposable plastic/foam packaging into the park.
  • Reef-safe sunscreen only: Thai National Parks have announced bans on certain chemical sunscreens that are harmful to coral. Please use reef-safe sunscreen or protective clothing instead.
  • Respect wildlife: Do not touch, chase, or disturb marine life. Never stand on coral or the seabed, and never take shells or coral as souvenirs.
  • Follow park staff & boat crew instructions: Rules can change depending on conservation measures and conditions. Always follow the guide briefing and any ranger instructions.

New Thailand Diving & Snorkeling Rules

Thailand introduced stricter nationwide standards for diving and snorkeling activities (effective 22 April 2025) to protect coral reefs and improve safety.
  • Supervision required: Every trip must be accompanied by a certified dive supervisor or assistant.
  • Life jackets for snorkeling near coral: Life vests must be provided and worn when snorkeling near coral reefs (unless the tourist holds a recognized freediving certificate).
  • Mandatory briefing: Guests must receive a briefing on laws, safety, and responsible marine practices before activities.
  • Group ratios: Limits apply to how many guests one supervisor can oversee (different limits for deep diving vs snorkeling/freediving, and for training sessions).
  • Camera rules: Underwater photography is restricted unless the diver is qualified (e.g., Advanced certification or 40 logged dives) and can show proof if requested.
  • Reef distance: Divers must stay at least 2 metres above coral heads, and fin control must be demonstrated before approaching coral areas.
To comply with these rules, reminder: we may limit snorkeling approach to reefs, and we may ask guests to leave cameras on board if requirements are not met. Divers are expected to control their buoyancy for their own safety and the safety of the guide, group and environment.

  • Cancellations: latest 12:00 the day before the trip.
