1) Purpose of this page
Scuba diving, freediving, snorkeling, and boat activities can be physically demanding and involve inherent risks. This page explains the medical and fitness requirements that may apply when you join activities with ME Diving Khaolak Co., Ltd. (“we”, “us”).
These requirements exist to protect your health and safety, and the safety of other guests and staff.
2) General participation requirements
- You must be in a physical condition suitable for the activity you book.
- You must be able to understand and follow safety instructions (in a language agreed with our staff).
- You must disclose relevant medical conditions and recent health issues honestly and in advance.
- We may refuse participation or modify an activity for safety reasons.
3) Scuba diving and training: medical questionnaire
For scuba diving (including training courses), you may be asked to complete a medical questionnaire before participation. This is standard in the dive industry.
- If you answer “Yes” to any relevant medical questions, you may be required to provide a doctor’s clearance stating you are fit to dive.
- We recommend arranging any doctor’s clearance before your planned activity date, especially during busy periods.
4) When a doctor’s clearance may be required
A doctor’s clearance may be required (or strongly recommended) if you have, or have had, any condition that could affect safety underwater or on a boat, including (examples):
- Asthma or other breathing/lung issues
- Heart or cardiovascular conditions
- Epilepsy, seizures, fainting, or unexplained loss of consciousness
- Diabetes, especially if not well controlled
- Ear/sinus problems or surgery affecting equalization
- Severe allergies, especially with risk of anaphylaxis
- Recent serious illness, hospitalization, or surgery
- Pregnancy
- Any condition requiring regular medication that could affect awareness, breathing, heart rate, or response time
This list is not exhaustive. If you are unsure, contact us before booking.
5) Temporary conditions that can stop diving
Even if you are generally healthy, you may not be able to participate if you have temporary conditions such as:
- Cold, flu, fever, significant cough
- Blocked sinuses, ear pain, inability to equalize
- Severe fatigue, dehydration, or heat illness
- Recent alcohol/drug impairment or hangover symptoms affecting judgment or balance
6) Fitness, swimming ability, and comfort in water
- Some activities require basic swimming ability and comfort in open water.
- For certain courses or programs, you may need to complete a swim/float test according to training standards.
- If you are not comfortable in the water, tell us in advance so we can recommend suitable options (e.g., private guide, easier sites, or snorkeling alternatives).
7) Medications, alcohol, and drugs
- You must inform us of any medication that could affect safety (e.g., drowsiness, reduced awareness, breathing or heart effects).
- Participation is not permitted if you are intoxicated or otherwise impaired.
- If staff believe you are impaired, we may refuse participation for safety reasons, and it may be treated as a non-refundable cancellation (see Booking Terms and Refund Policy).
8) Duty to disclose and consequences of non-disclosure
- You must disclose medical conditions and relevant history accurately.
- If you withhold or misrepresent important information, it may increase risk and may lead to refusal of service or cancellation without refund.
- In an emergency, incomplete information may affect your care. Please be honest and proactive.
9) Right to refuse or modify activities for safety
Our instructors, guides, and boat crew have the authority to make safety decisions. We may:
- Require a refresher or check dive
- Limit depth or dive conditions
- Recommend a private guide
- Change the activity type
- Refuse participation if safety requirements are not met
10) Data and privacy (medical information)
- Medical information is treated as sensitive and is used only for safety and service delivery purposes.
- We limit access to medical information and keep it only as long as necessary for safety, compliance, and record-keeping.
- For more details, see our Privacy Policy.
