Wall drama at Koh Bon + boulder magic at Similan 9

Every Saturday

If you want variety, this is the smart choice. Koh Bon delivers that dramatic open-water feeling with wall and slope diving along a powerful ridge — the kind of site that feels “big” the moment you drop in. With schooling fish feeding in the current and the constant possibility of something larger passing through, the dive has a cinematic, offshore vibe that’s hard to beat.

Then Similan #9 flips the mood into pure granite wonderland. This is where the dive becomes more scenic and textured: boulder formations, coral blocks, and sand patches where surprises can appear at any time. You go from “big wall energy” to “classic Similan landscape” in one day, which makes the trip feel premium and complete. It’s two different styles of Andaman diving back-to-back — and that contrast is exactly what makes this day such a favorite.

Tour Location

Koh Bon & Similan #9 – Big walls, deep blue, and the kind of dives that feel legendary

This combo day is pure Andaman contrast in the best way: Koh Bon brings dramatic underwater terrain and open-water energy, while Similan Island #9 delivers those iconic granite boulder landscapes and reef structure the Similans are famous for. If you want a day that feels a bit more “expedition” than a standard reef trip, this is it.
Koh Bon is known for its step-down ridge and wall-like drop-offs where the reef falls away into deeper water. Sea fans and schooling fish love the current here, and the whole site has that “watch the blue” feeling where anything can appear. When conditions line up, this is one of the best places in the region to hope for a big, elegant drive-by from the deeper water, so the dives feel exciting even when you’re just hovering and scanning.
Then Similan #9 changes the mood completely: huge granite boulders, swim-through style gaps, coral patches, and reef zones packed with fish life. It’s a scenic, photogenic dive with loads of structure, so you get both wide-angle beauty and lots of small details tucked into the rocks. Together, Koh Bon and #9 make a seriously satisfying day: big terrain, big atmosphere, and nonstop reasons to look both close and far.

Similan National Park Rules

  • Season: The Similan Islands are closed every year from 16 May to 14 October and open from 15 October to 15 May.
  • No drones: Drone flights are strictly prohibited.
  • No single-use plastics: Many Thai National Parks prohibit single-use plastic items (and foam containers). Please avoid bringing disposable plastic/foam packaging into the park.
  • Reef-safe sunscreen only: Thai National Parks have announced bans on certain chemical sunscreens that are harmful to coral. Please use reef-safe sunscreen or protective clothing instead.
  • Respect wildlife: Do not touch, chase, or disturb marine life. Never stand on coral or the seabed, and never take shells or coral as souvenirs.
  • Follow park staff & boat crew instructions: Rules can change depending on conservation measures and conditions. Always follow the guide briefing and any ranger instructions.

New Thailand Diving & Snorkeling Rules

Thailand introduced stricter nationwide standards for diving and snorkeling activities (effective 22 April 2025) to protect coral reefs and improve safety.
  • Supervision required: Every trip must be accompanied by a certified dive supervisor or assistant.
  • Life jackets for snorkeling near coral: Life vests must be provided and worn when snorkeling near coral reefs (unless the tourist holds a recognized freediving certificate).
  • Mandatory briefing: Guests must receive a briefing on laws, safety, and responsible marine practices before activities.
  • Group ratios: Limits apply to how many guests one supervisor can oversee (different limits for deep diving vs snorkeling/freediving, and for training sessions).
  • Camera rules: Underwater photography is restricted unless the diver is qualified (e.g., Advanced certification or 40 logged dives) and can show proof if requested.
  • Reef distance: Divers must stay at least 2 metres above coral heads, and fin control must be demonstrated before approaching coral areas.
To comply with these rules, reminder: we may limit snorkeling approach to reefs, and we may ask guests to leave cameras on board if requirements are not met. Divers are expected to control their buoyancy for their own safety and the safety of the guide, group and environment.
